A few miles down the coast from Berwick is the small village of Bamburgh, famous for its castle and for being the home of local heroine Grace Darling. The walk begins under the gaze of Bamburgh Castle, perched dramatically above the beach.
Walking north, you will, after a while come to the remains of a wartime jetty. Above you in the dunes is the site of a gun emplacement, a reminder that even a beautiful spot like this did not escape the touch of war. Views of Holy Island and Ross Sands can be had on this stage of the walk.
Further on, as the end of the Bay comes into view, a track leads off to the left and climbs to a road past some cottages. Crossing the road you continue past a farm and climb steeply away from the Bay.
You complete the walk by turning back towards Bamburgh at the top of the hill. As you cross through the fields to rejoin the road, you can get fine views of the Castle and surrounding countryside.
