Children Of The Outbye-

Dorothy Sharpe’s new book is a social history of North Northumberland from around 1800 as revealed in the history of Kirknewton school - a tiny school on the edge of the Cheviot Hills. There is dditional material relating to the nearby schools of Howtel, Milfield and Southernknowe.

Children of the Outbye is meticulously researched and uses evidence from interviews with former pupils. It is illustrated throughout with photographs - many of them donated by the families of those referred to in the text.

A truly fascinating read!
