The walks begins in the town centre and climbs through fields and woods to a vantage point above Rothbury. You get superb views to the south and west from the outset.
After a steep climb further fine views of the surrounding countryside are to be had - south to the Simonside Hills, north to the Cheviot Hills, and west towards Alwinton. Travelling on level, man-made track for much of the way there is much to take in.as the walk passes old sheep stells, Primrose Cottage, and a variety of interesting trees and plants, before returning you to Rothbury itself.
Why not make a day out of it, and visit the fascinating Cragside House. Built by Lord Armstrong, it was the first house in the country to have electric lights, powered by hydro-electricity. A treasure chest of Victorian life, and scientific and engineering development. Its worth a visit for the grounds alone!
